Cross-sectional imaging techniques can be used to confirm the diagnosis and to clarify the anatomy and function of the anorectal region. CONCLUSION: Cross-sectional imaging has increased the understanding of the sphincter complex, resulting in a more adequate evaluation of fecal incontinence.
